Airbus UK

Aircraft, helicopter, military aircraft, and space systems manufacturer.

What we do:

Airbus is one of the very top global aerospace companies.

Founded in 1970, the company designs, manufactures, and sells commercial aircraft, helicopters, military aircraft, and space systems.  It is a truly international business with its headquarters in France and major factories in Germany, United Kingdom, Spain, and USA.

This cooperative encourages a work practice of shared knowledge and understanding of the power of teamwork to make big things happen.

Airbus is the UK’s largest civil aerospace company and its foremost exporter in aeronautics.

At its Filton and Broughton sites, Airbus designs, tests, and manufactures wings sustaining around 8,000 jobs and hundreds of apprenticeships across the UK.

Broughton, with its 81-year aerospace legacy, is a global centre of excellence for wing manufacturing, which is one of the most complex parts of an aircraft.

Filton is home to Northern Europe’s largest concentration of aerospace engineers and leads in wing design and support, fuel and landing gear systems, and advanced research part of Airbus’ commitment to innovation and decarbonisation.

For People and Planet :

Airbus products bring people closer together, helping them unite and progress.

But at the same time the company recognises that this success has come at a cost, and it is essential to make air travel far more efficient and far less damaging to the environment.

In answer to this teams are

Designing planes that can fly longer distances while using less fuel and reducing the amount of harmful gases released into the air.

Exploring the use of fuels that come from renewable sources, like plants or waste materials, instead of fossil fuels. Hydrogen power is a big focus on this work.

Testing electric planes or planes that use a combination of traditional engines and electric power. This can help cut down on emissions and make flying cleaner.

Experimenting with new shapes and materials for aircraft that can improve aerodynamics and reduce weight, which also helps save fuel.

By doing all these things, Airbus aims to create airplanes that are not only efficient but also kinder to our planet, helping to combat climate change.

Why we do it:

Air travel has in the last 100 years transformed the way we see the world and has enabled people to traverse vast distances in hours rather than days.

It has facilitated international trade, boosting economies by allowing quick transportation of goods. Cultural exchange has flourished as people visit diverse regions, fostering understanding and collaboration.

Above and beyond that huge passenger benefits Airbus’ products are used for

Humanitarian aid providing aircraft, satellite imagery and other services when relief teams are literally fighting against the clock.

Transporting patients for urgent medical care.

Assisting search efforts to find those marooned at sea, stranded in the mountains, or isolated in remote regions.

In addition to its aircraft Airbus space technologies and satellite imagery solutions continually expand human knowledge of our universe, from the ability to capture critical events on Earth to providing the solutions that enable deep-space exploration.

When a crisis occurs Airbus observation satellites acquire images of the concerned area. This imagery is delivered to relevant authorities, together with archived data, to rapidly assess the extent of damage and support rescue planning by allowing actions to be prioritized, and identifying if roads, bridges and airport runways are still operational.

The People who do it:

Working at Airbus offers numerous benefits, including a collaborative and inclusive work culture that fosters creativity and innovation. Employees have access to cutting-edge technology and opportunities for professional development, enabling them to grow their skills in a dynamic industry. The company values diversity and promotes a healthy work-life balance, making it an attractive workplace for individuals passionate about aerospace and engineering.

Additionally, Airbus’s commitment to sustainability aligns with the values of many employees, creating a sense of purpose and pride in their work.

When a prototype of their aircraft takes to the air for the first time, employees experience a profound mix of emotions—excitement, pride, and relief. Years of hard work, dedication, and teamwork culminate in this pivotal moment, igniting a huge sense of accomplishment.

As the aircraft ascends, a wave of joy washes over them, often accompanied by tears of happiness. The realization that their innovative ideas and relentless efforts have come to fruition creates an overwhelming sense of belonging and purpose. They share a collective thrill, knowing they’ve contributed to something groundbreaking that will shape the future of aviation.

Who We Work With:

Airbus relies on thousands of subcontractors and component manufacturers, large and small, to build something as complex as an aircraft.

Subcontractors bring expertise in specific areas, ensuring high-quality production and innovation. This collaboration allows Airbus to focus on design, integration, and the final assembly.

Efficient coordination among these suppliers is critical, as delays or quality issues at any level can impact the entire production process.
