QTS Group
What we do:
QTS maintains and repairs rail infrastructure from its base in Lanarkshire and eight regional bases.
Clearing vegetation to give drivers a clear view, stabilising tracks, installing safety fencing or new station fittings - are just some of the tasks that its team of 300 undertakes.
On such projects safety is of the essence, and consequently the company regularly trains its operational crews on all aspects of on-site and trackside safety. Such is the investment in this training that they now offer courses to other companies working on infrastructure projects.
QTS invests heavily in the latest equipment, often making modifications or adding features to suit particular technical needs. The aim always is to make the task in hand as easy, efficient and safe as possible.
QTS prides itself on being one of the country’s most innovative railway contractors.
For People and Planet :
QTS group is passionate about the environment, and is committed to increasing sustainability as a business.
Their teams always aim to reduce environmental impacts and minimise waste.
The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly visible and so QTS has a dedicated team of environmental staff working on the day-to-day impacts on the environment from operations but also on big picture projects to ensure a sustainable future for the company.
Biodiversity is an important issue for QTS. The railway lineside provides an excellent habitat for pollinators, with a little help, and so QTS created the Bumble Bee Project.
Whilst working they have been selecting appropriate sites to install bumble bee hives and introducing a small colony to the habitat. In support of this where possible the aim is to swap out grass seed for wildflower and clover seed to make a more desirable habitat for the bees and a greater chance for them to spread and create new colonies.
Why we do it:
Working with Network Rail and other transport providers, it's our job to help keep the system working safely.
QTS teams can be seen trackside, maintaining the land, making track repairs, and upgrading equipment, to make your journey as safe and comfortable as possible.
If we do it efficiently, then your journey is rarely compromised and we know we have done our bit for the local community.
Whenever a site crew completes a project there is a great sense of fulfilment in leaving behind a transformation. You can see we've made a difference.
The work on-site is all about working together to get the job done fast accurately and safely. At the same time, it is often physical work keeping everyone fit and active.
Back at head office, the administrative team gets satisfaction from knowing that materials and equipment arrived on-site as needed, schedules have been well-coordinated, and all checks are done to a customer’s satisfaction.
The People who do it:
QTS firmly believes in the value of people working together.
Teams are always better than one for solving problems, finishing off complex tasks, increasing creativity and most importantly fostering trust in work where safety is always necessary.
Through careful planning and cooperation projects are done on time and budget.
It's something the company is justly proud of.
Into the Future:
QTS has grown considerably since its foundation 30 years ago. It remains confident that its services will continue to be needed as long as there are rail tracks and roads.
